Lie 04:35
How can you lie to her, to me? And how does your heart have room for three? I’ve so many questions But you sit there like stone Does she think you’re here alone? Breathing and breaking, but who do I tell? Surrounded by strangers who know me so well Love, I need answers Whatever the answer Please, Don’t leave me alone I can lie to anyone These days it’s all I do But you’re the one I don’t lie to How’s it so easy How do I still lie with you? How can I lie to you, to her? Are you the man you thought you were? You’re asking the questions I ask myself, too No, I’ve got no answers for you I can lie to anyone These days it’s all I do But you’re the one I don’t lie to How’s it so easy How do I still lie with you? how do I still lie with you? Please answer me What do I say Please answer me What do I do now, tell me Please answer me now Please How can I lie to her, with you? Who’s the one I’m lying to? How Is it wrong if no one knows But you know And You know I can lie to anyone These days it’s all I do But you’re the one I don’t lie to (I don’t wanna lie to you, but) How’s it so easy How do I still lie with you?

Split the tab, walk outside It’s raining all around I wanna feel it, but I don’t Hail a cab, pick your way Through puddles on the ground I wanna feel it, but I don’t As the door closes, you look back to ask If this could lead to something, but it won’t I wanna feel it, but I don’t People say that New York City Breathes and lives and dies I wanna feel it, but I don’t And everyday it comes to life In 16 million eyes I wanna feel it, but I don’t Living here means giving up the stars that used to guide us Like the neon lights at the Barclay’s Center won’t I wanna feel it, but I don’t Come and stay awhile She perks up when you come by I wanna feel it, but I don’t Won’t be too much longer ‘Til it’s time to say goodbye I wanna feel it, but I don’t We said goodbye a long time ago Either she’ll remember or she won’t I wanna feel it, but I don’t As the door closes, It’s hard not to ask Is time supposed to get these clouds to clear How long will I still be standing here Waiting for the answers to appear When I know they won’t I wanna feel it, but I don’t I wanna feel it, but I don’t

I can’t waste more time On trying to meet you halfway down the line You’re not frozen, you’re on fire Can you see me through the smoke around your eyes? Easy answers are lies You gotta talk to me A hundred telephone wires A hundred thousand miles your words could fill Each listening and still You gotta talk to me I can’t rely on you No matter how much I want to No matter how much you say you want to change I can’t waste more time On trying to meet you halfway down the line When I need you here with me Tell them I walked away You can tell them that I left you high and dry And never say why You wouldn't fight with me Don’t you put this on me I’m not going to change, but I’m fighting through And if you wanted this too Then you would fight with me I can’t rely on you No matter how much I want to No matter how much you say you want to change I can’t waste more time On trying to meet you halfway down the line When I need you here with me You’re not frozen, you’re on fire (I always thought I’d have the patience to stay here) Can you see me through the smoke around your eyes? (I never knew you’d waste my time) Easy answers are lies, you gotta talk to me (I used to trust my expectations, but now I know…) I can’t rely on you No matter how much I want to No matter how much you say you want to change I can’t waste more time On trying to meet you halfway down the line When I need you here with me

about

Mary Bolt and Chris Peters are New York-based singer-songwriters. They built Constant Strangers out of a connection, sometimes close, sometimes distant, sometimes tumultuous, sometimes easy, always honest and surprising. It makes sense, then, that the songs they write speak as much to the resilience of intimacy as to the poison of loneliness. Recorded and mixed from opposite sides of the country during quarantine, Constant Strangers' self-titled debut EP is itself a struggle to connect.
